Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional manager to join a busy and friendly team in Harrogate. This is ideally a fulltime
post, but we would consider a part-time post for the right candida top-rated well regarded and friendly LIFE/private client team covers the full range of private client legal matters. The team comprises 5 lawyers, 3 legal assistants and 4 team assistants. The role is to manage the people and systems within that team to make sure the team works to
maximum efficiency and is able to deliver excellent client service. Previous experience of working in a law firm – as a lawyer or manager – could be an advantage but is not essential. We welcome applications from anyone who has good experience in managing to get the most out of people.

Overall Purpose:

Manage and develop the team for continued, profitable growth consistent with
the values of the firm.
To include:
 Delivery of agreed objectives to further the firm’s goal and strategy
 Assist with Team Business Plan and allocation within individual appraisal
objectives for Team
 Delivery of agreed Team actions that promote tangible business benefits
 Liaison with Operations Director to ensure compliance with SRA and any
other regulatory requirements
 Obtain and maintain accreditations and quality standards as appropriate
 Support key initiatives and marketing activity

Job Responsibilities:

  •  Effective management of team finance; to include budgets, fee targets, team expenses, credit control, training costs, networking budget
     Team recruitment; identification of need (in discussion with Team Leader), proposal to management, assistance in interviewing and securing best personnel for approved recruitments
     Performance Management; specifically regular Effective Performance Meetings for lawyers and legal assistants
     Team administration; to include holidays and flexi, sick leave etc.
     Team meetings – to lead these
     Capability and Disciplinary for Team members, referring to Team Leader and/or MEG if necessary for senior members of team.
  •  Training and development for all Team members; specifically in conjunction with identified objectives and Development Plans and to maximise personal development
     Efficiency and effectiveness; through use of case management system, precedents, working practices, work allocation, other technology and internal procedures
     Effective File Review; to include full participation in external audit and internal review for team members and reviewing the external file audits undertaken for individual performance corrections and trends indicating
    areas for development
     Client Care; champion the Team’s service to clients, review complaints and manage any follow up remedial measures in team
     Compliance for Team with all statutory and regulatory requirements; assisting where required with policy and procedure including annual reviews as required by Lexcel
     Cross Team; work effectively with other Team Managers, Team Leaders and Marketing personnel to share knowledge, best practice and develop business opportunities
     Support and progress approved sales and marketing plans
     Assist team members to obtain/retain Accreditations and Directories (as appropriate)
     Such other duties as may reasonably fall within the scope of the job and/or which may reasonably be assigned from time to time.
